Smoke and Tobacco Free Campus
Upper Valley Medical Center (UVMC) implemented a tobacco-free campus policy on Oct. 1, 2007. The policy prohibits UVMC employees, medical staff, patients and visitors from using any tobacco products anywhere in the buildings or on the grounds of UVMC-owned properties, including sidewalks, walkways, driveways and parking lots. This policy is in accordance with the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association’s (GDAHA) recommendation that member hospitals adopt a tobacco-free policy. As of Jan. 1, 2008, 18 hospitals in Dayton and surrounding areas implemented tobacco free environments for better health, longevity, and quality of life for their patients, visitors, and staff.
The tobacco-free policy supports the Surgeon General of the United States declaration that both tobacco use and second-hand smoke are hazardous to health and assures full compliance with Ohio state law.
